Webcam: SquirrelHouse

By: SkwerlCam

Notes: Not so fun when it’s just one animal, but I may be biased because puppies are better than squirrels anyway. But still, how about 3 baby squirrels. Then we’d have something.

About:

This baby squirrel was rescued from a cat a few weeks ago and hasn’t been very receptive to any attempts to put him back into the wild. He’s too busy living the good life. Hoping to help him out, I built him a squirrelhouse and we’re getting him used to it before we move him back outside. I’m hoping to build a camera into the house before we install it on a tree in the backyard.

Videoblog: Types of Tea

By: Kevin Rose

Notes: 12 minutes is a long time to talk about tea. I know we’ve all been taught to have a beginning, middle, and then end with a strong conclusion, but in web video if you’re going to end up with a 5+ minute discussion, you’d do better to structure your content like an article. Think upside down pyramids. Tell me what I’m going to hear about so that I’ll consider sticking around.

Otherwise, this is fascinating. Beside all of the things I didn’t know about tea, I like that Kevin is focusing on a niche topic that has a community with a lot of passionate people. Besides his regular audience, he’s sure to convert new devoted viewers by sharing a passion that people can relate to.

Interview: “Original Shows for the Web” - Fortune interviews L.A. investor Ross Levinsohn says the Internet offers a unique challenge for content producers.

Notes: Great advice - produce programming for less. You can cut more corners than you think and still end up with great content. Just focus on the story, writing, and pace of editing to keep the viewer engaged.
