Here...

Unused stage visuals for M.I.A’s Bang by David OReilly…

Here are some stage visuals I recently did for M.I.A. The deadline for this was extremely tight, everything was done in a few days in preparation for her Coachella gig last weekend. Here was the first test I did before any brief, it wasn’t used in the end but it’s my personal favourite. You can view this with red/cyan glasses, the gun’s distortion is in true 3d space.

This is a composite of some of the other ones I did, more in line with M.I.A’s aesthetic (unfortunately compression kind of kills the flat colors/strobe effects). Since these were rendered in extreme widescreen I compressed them both into one video. The left audio channel is for the song “World Town” and the right the final version of “Bang”. Listen to them separately with headphones. (via)

Awesome song, the cinematography (by Kit Pennebaker) is amazing, and I love the dancing, not to mention Kathleen is SO GREAT! And there’s quite a bit of twitter fun included for your viewing pleasure.

Notes: Not so fun when it’s just one animal, but I may be biased because puppies are better than squirrels anyway. But still, how about 3 baby squirrels. Then we’d have something.

About:

This baby squirrel was rescued from a cat a few weeks ago and hasn’t been very receptive to any attempts to put him back into the wild. He’s too busy living the good life. Hoping to help him out, I built him a squirrelhouse and we’re getting him used to it before we move him back outside. I’m hoping to build a camera into the house before we install it on a tree in the backyard.

Notes: I’m really excited for this movie and I’m not even a Star Trek fan.

Bonus - a couple of my friends/old colleagues worked (production, post-production) on this which always makes a movie 100% more fun to watch.

By: Kevin Rose

Notes: 12 minutes is a long time to talk about tea. I know we’ve all been taught to have a beginning, middle, and then end with a strong conclusion, but in web video if you’re going to end up with a 5+ minute discussion, you’d do better to structure your content like an article. Think upside down pyramids. Tell me what I’m going to hear about so that I’ll consider sticking around.

Otherwise, this is fascinating. Beside all of the things I didn’t know about tea, I like that Kevin is focusing on a niche topic that has a community with a lot of passionate people. Besides his regular audience, he’s sure to convert new devoted viewers by sharing a passion that people can relate to.
